Law Firms in Delhi: what the practice actually looks like

Delhi is the only city where a practice can appear before the Supreme Court in the morning and the Delhi High Court after lunch, and many chambers are built around exactly that. Below them sit the district courts at Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Saket, Karkardooma and Rouse Avenue, the last carrying the CBI and ED matters against public figures. What really distinguishes Delhi is the tribunal density: NCLT and NCLAT, the National Green Tribunal, TDSAT, the Competition Commission, the Central Administrative Tribunal and the appellate income-tax benches are all within the city, which is why firms elsewhere brief Delhi counsel for anything appellate. Writ practice against Union ministries is routine. A very large share of the city’s businesses are family-run trading firms dealing with buyers across north India.

Delhi has one of the highest per-capita incomes among Indian states and an unusually service-heavy economy — trade, hotels, transport, communication and business services dominate over manufacturing.
