Startups in Nagpur: what the practice actually looks like

Nagpur's startup scene is early, small and shaped almost entirely by geography. VNIT and the newer national institutes supply competent engineers, though many leave for Pune or Hyderabad. Most sell into logistics companies and agri-processors headquartered in other cities, which means the pitch, the pilot and the renewal all happen without the customer ever seeing the office.

Nagpur sits almost exactly at India’s geographic centre, which has shaped its economy around logistics. MIHAN, the multi-modal international cargo hub around the airport, was built on that advantage and has drawn IT, defence and warehousing operations. Butibori and Hingna hold industrial units, while the surrounding Vidarbha region supplies oranges, cotton and coal.

Nagpur is famous as India’s Orange City and functions as the main trading centre for Vidarbha’s citrus crop. Its central location has made it a natural hub for national road and air logistics, which is precisely why MIHAN was developed as a multi-modal cargo hub.
