Consultants in Hyderabad: what the practice actually looks like

Hyderabad supports two fairly separate consulting economies. In HITEC City and Gachibowli it is enterprise IT: SAP and Oracle functional consulting, Salesforce and ServiceNow implementation advisory, cloud migration and data-platform work, much of it subcontracted through the large services firms or sold straight to the global capability centres that dominate the corridor. The second economy is pharma and life sciences — regulatory affairs consulting for USFDA and EU filings, GMP and quality-system remediation, validation and CSV work, clinical documentation support for the bulk-drug and formulation companies around Genome Valley and the Jeedimetla and Patancheru belts. Independent consultants here often move between contract and retainer, and a great deal of the work is billed through empanelment on a large firm's supplier list rather than won directly. Government advisory around IT policy and the state's life-sciences push forms a smaller third stream.

Hyderabad pairs a very large IT corridor with an equally serious pharma and life-sciences base. HITEC City, Madhapur and Gachibowli host global capability centres for some of the world’s biggest technology firms, while Genome Valley and the industrial belt around the city are home to a dense cluster of bulk drug, formulation and CRO companies. Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills carry the consulting, media and real-estate businesses that serve them.

Hyderabad is one of India’s two largest pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs, with a heavy concentration of bulk drug and formulation units, and Genome Valley is among the country’s earliest organised life-sciences clusters. Telangana’s IT exports are dominated by the city, driven largely by multinational development centres.
