Exporters in Mysuru: what the practice actually looks like

Mysuru's exports run through silk, sandalwood-derived products, agarbatti and a growing engineering and IT base. Mysore silk sarees and silk fabric, incense sticks and essential oils, coffee and spices from the surrounding Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru growing districts, and handicrafts including rosewood inlay work go to buyers in the US, Europe, Japan and the Gulf. The Hebbal and Belagola industrial areas and the Hootagalli belt export machined components, electrical goods and industrial equipment, and the city's IT and engineering-services firms bill overseas clients under SOFTEX. Cargo moves by road to Bengaluru for air freight, or to Mangaluru port and to Chennai for containers, with clearance often handled through ICDs near Bengaluru rather than in Mysuru itself. Coffee exporters here deal with buyer cupping approvals and origin traceability that the manufactured-goods exporters in the same city never encounter.

Mysuru trades on heritage and increasingly on technology. The palace, Dasara and the surrounding heritage circuit sustain a large hospitality and travel economy, while the Hebbal Industrial Area and campuses along the outskirts have made the city a serious secondary IT destination for firms priced out of Bengaluru. Mysore silk, sandalwood products and the industrial belt at Nanjangud round out the base.
