Exporters in Ludhiana: what the practice actually looks like

Ludhiana exports hosiery and hardware. The knitwear and woollen cluster — sweaters, thermal wear, socks, T-shirts and knitted garments produced across thousands of units in the Bahadurke Road, Gill Road and Focal Point belts — ships to buyers in Europe, the UK, the Gulf and the CIS countries, with a strong seasonal winter-wear rhythm. In parallel the city is India's bicycle and bicycle-parts capital, exporting cycles, components, chains and sprockets, along with hand tools, fasteners, auto parts and agricultural machinery to Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. Almost everything routes through ICD Ludhiana at Dhandari Kalan, which handles customs clearance and stuffing before rail or road movement to Mundra, Nhava Sheva or Kandla.
